Cien y Pico Doble Pasta 2009 is made using fruit from old bush vine grenache grown at extremely low yields. Situated on the Meseta, or plateau, of Castila La Mancha rainfall is extremely low and at 1000m in altitude sun intensity very high. The winemakers suggest that the wine makes itself, requiring little intervention on their parts. Fermented in small open vessels and then 20 % aged in new oak barrels for 19 months. The wine is extremely dark and very juicy (hence the Spanish term Doble Pasta). Tere is lots of dark berry fruit, cherries and a little aromatic herbaceous character. On the palate the wine is intense but the tannins are ripe and almost unnoticed. Powerful fruit on the finish.3 BOTTLES OF THE 2008 VINTAGE REMAIN.
