Neudorf Nelson Chardonnay 2011 is produced with fruit grown in the clay soiled vineyards around Nelson. Hand-harvested and sorted, the fruit is whole bunch presssed. After a brief settling the juice is transferred to barrels, around 25% of which are new, and allowed to ferment spontaneously. The wines is left in barrel to under malo-lactic transformation with occasional stirring of the yeast sediment. The estates quality mindset shines through in this wine. Lean and refreshing, with lots of white peach and melon and a supporting savoury, smoky character. Beautifully balanced.
