Philipp Grassl produces this wine from fruit grown in the Baernreiser vineyard in the Carnuntum wine region, east of Vienna. The vienyard faces southeast and is composed of a gravelly calcareous clay soil. A blend of 60% Zweigelt, 20% Merlot, 15% BlaufrAnkisch und 5% Cabernet Sauvignon is used from vines with an average age of 50 years old. An elegant nose of dark berries, blackcurrant, cedar wood, on the palate the body is powerful with firm tannins and notes of bitter chocolate.
