McHenry Hohnen 3 Amigos White 2009 is made by winemaker Ryan Walsh using a blend of Marsanne, Chardonnay, Roussanne and Viognier (55/22/20/3) grown in the well-draining, gravelly-soiled McLeod Creek, Calgardup Brook and Rocky Road vineyards in the south of the Australian "Great Southern" wine-growing region where the climate is influenced by the relative proximity of the Great Southern Ocean. Fruit is harvested in the cool of the night and is then crushed as whole bunches, the juice settled and the clarified must racked to barrel for fermentation, mostly with selected yeasts strains but a small proportion spontaneously. The wine is subsequently aged on the lees prior to bottling. The finished wine is pale lemon yellow and has stone fruits and citrus peel on the nose together with some attractive waxy notes. On the palate it is rounded and beatifully balanced with lovely acidity that balances the fig, lime and pineapple flavours. Nice and southern Rhone in style.
