Izadi Rioja Reserva 2011 in half bottles is made by Angel Ortega using Tempranillo from bush-vines grown in vineyards which have large diurnal changes in temperature in the Samaniego, Abalos and La Puebla de Labarca region of Rioja Alavesa that are either owned by Izadi or are contracted long-term allowing control of farming practices. Following harvest and crushing the must is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with regular pumping of the wine over the cap of skins for 28 days. The wine was then matured in American oak barrels for over a year before being bottled and aged for a further 2 years before release for sale. A bright ruby red wine with red fruits, spice, smoke a hint of aniseed on the nose. Nicely rounded on the palate with floral and fruit flavours. Nicely balanced and elegant.
