Boulevard Napoleon Carignan LAngely 2011 is made by winemaker Benjamin Darnault using a blend of 95% Carignan and 5% Syrah from 75 year old vines growing in the stoney-terraced vineyards of La Liviniere in the Minervois. After being harvested by hand the fruit is de-stemmed and the must fermented in stainless steel vats and then aged in a mixture of oak barrels of differing size and age and in stainless steel tanks. A deep ruby wine with plenty of ripe fruit and spice on the nose. On the palate it is supple with good beery fruit flavours and persistence. Shows that quality wine can be produced from the much underrated Carignan variety.
