Izadi Rioja Reserva 2010 is made using grapes from 186 ha of vineyards in Rioja Alavesa that are either owned or worked by farmers under contract to Izadi, this allowing control of everything from vineyard work right through to the cellar and all the way to bottling. With the vineyards at around 600m above sea level diurnal changes in temperature are increased, helping maintain acidity and aromatics in the grapes and then the finished wine. The must is fermented in stainless steel vats with regular pumping over to extract colour and tannins. The wine was then matured for just over a year in American oak barrels. The finished wine is an intense ruby colour and has lots of coconut and vanilla character as well as a pleasing dark fruited character. A pleasure.
