Donnafugata Ben Rye

Donnafugata Ben Rye

Customer Rating

The name of Donnafugata's Ben Rye 2011 whose name comes from the Arabic for ‘Son of the Wind‘, is made with fruit from vines planted traditionally, in hollows in the ground to protect them from the winds for which the island is renowned. After harvest grapes were partially dried and mixed with grapes from late ripening vineyards and were fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks where it was also matured for 4 months before bottling. The finished wine is amber in colour with apricots and candied peel and a little herbaceousness on the nose. The palate is full and sweet, but balanced by excellent acidity. Very long finish.
